A Look at the Telluride: Kia's Dedicated Offroad Debut
Although the Kia Telluride first appeared as a concept car at the Detroit Auto Show back in 2016, no one heard much about this midsize SUV until it made its debut at New York Fashion Week in 2018. With the official rollout of the 2020 Telluride just around the corner, here's some essential information about this highly anticipated addition to Kia's lineup.
A Spacious Interior
Though it's technically a midsize SUV, the Telluride can fit up to eight passengers with ease. Its square, boxy proportions, inspired by the first SUVs on the market, make the Telluride the largest vehicle Kia has ever offered. Every trim comes with faux or real leather upholstery as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Passengers can enjoy plenty of legroom even in the third row, and, with the seats folded, the Telluride's cargo space expands to more than 87 cubic feet.
Despite its vintage feel, the Telluride is decked out with the latest technology. Its 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system supports smartphone integration through both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Multiple devices can be connected to the vehicle's Bluetooth system simultaneously. Four USB ports come standard, and wireless charging and premium sound systems are also available.
Rugged Performance
The Kia Telluride is equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 engine that provides 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, but every model can be upgraded with optional all-wheel drive for people who plan on hitting the trails.
The Telluride has four standard drive modes (Smart, Eco, Sport, and Comfort) in the base model and an extra Snow mode for its all-wheel-drive models. The all-wheel-drive system can easily be converted to four-wheel drive with the lock system to tackle the toughest terrains.
Impressive Safety Equipment
Every Telluride comes with a rear-seat reminder feature to help alert drivers when child passengers have been left unattended. Other standard high-tech safety features include blind spot collision avoidance, safe exit assistance, and smart cruise control with stop and go
